Be In The Picture 8

As mentioned last month, I am falling behind big time with getting this post done at the beginning of each month. That said, we were travelling in America so I’ll use that excuse this month. Either way, here is August’s post. And wow, what a month it was. We had a quiet start to the month but ended on a huge high in Yellowstone National Park. I’ve managed a few rather nice captures in front of the camera with BattleKid.

We didn’t do much at in the first half of the month. We took this picture of BattleKid and I for a post Cathryn of Cardiff Mummy Says. She was writing about parents twinning and this was me and BattleKid, rockin our blue tees and awesome Toms shoes.

BattleKid and I also had a fun evening on the couch and I managed this picture of the two of us. He was happy, I was happy (despite the crazy hair) and it even got featured in a roundup of #showyouwerethere by Madeline of This Glorious Life.

August here in Portugal has been hot, hot, hot but we did manage one evening at the beach, which was long overdue. BattleKid loved every minute as he always does and we enjoyed some time together at the shore paddling together. That was before he started jumping waves with BattleDad.

Before we hit America we had 36 hours in London and we decided to have a family day out while we were there. We visited the London Eye, saw the fish of SeaLife and even went dragon hunting at the Tower of London. This picture was taken on Embankment Bridge as we made our way from Southbank to the Tower of London.

After our fun-filled day in London we flew to America to start a wonderful two-week road trip and it started in wonderful Yellowstone National Park. From geysers to bison to waterfalls, we saw so much and enjoyed every minute of our four days in this stunning place. What a way to end August!

If you didn’t catch July’s Be in the Picture post, why not check it out. Our USA trip didn’t end there and some of the pictures in September’s post will come from the rest of our trip. So pop back next month to see those!

I’m falling behind with getting this post done at the beginning of each month but it’s been a busy one and we are getting ready for our forthcoming USA road-trip, which I mentioned in my Holiday Diaries for this year. But, as the saying goes, better late than never. I am glad I am managing to keep up with this series as it ensures I try to get in front of the camera during the month. And BattleKid will have lots of pictures of his mum to look back on in years to come.

We started off the month by exploring a nearby castle at Castro Marim. I was put in the stocks for taking too many pictures and not doing enough dragon hunting. I got a kiss though!

The same week we met friends of ours from Wales in a town called Beja in Central Portugal and as it had a castle, we did a bit of dragon hunting there. While we waited for them, I sneaked a picture of the boy and I.

This month also saw my nephew pop over for a visit and we did a few silly snaps after getting some promo pictures for our collaborative YouTube Videos on both mine and Nico’s channels. BattleKid wanted to get in on the action so we let him.

We also went to Ayamonte with Nico, and BattleKid didn’t want to play ball on the selfie front so I thought bugger it and pulled a silly face, as you do!

Other than that we’ve just been crafting, going for dinner, enjoying some early morning cuddles and time on the decking while it’s still cool enough.

If you didn’t catch June’s Be in the Picture post, why not check it out. Next month’s post will definitely be late as we will be in North West America on our road trip but I am hoping both August’s and September’s posts will have some good pictures to share.

Be In The Picture 6

At the start of each month, which comes around so quickly these days, I look back on the pictures I’ve taken for the month and each time I am surprised. Since starting to take part in Be In the Picture I make a big effort to ensure there are a few pictures taken of me for BattleKid to have in the future, even if it is in these posts.

We are almost 2 months in Portugal and we’ve all been spending a lot more time together as a family, which was one of our reasons for moving down here. We’ve been blessed with gorgeous weather with just a few days where we’ve needed to shelter indoors with the air con on as the temperatures crept beyond 35ºC.

So let’s take a look back at the month. Earlier this month I’ve been trying to keep on top of both blog work and a course I’m doing but I’ve been finding it hard. I have been known to bribe a certain someone with Disney Cars 2 and the odd biscuit so I can get some work done. Bad mum, I know but sometimes it has to be done!

All that effort was to get some stuff done before I jetted back to the UK for a weekend in London with 2 of my sisters for the Take That concert. It was a great weekend with visits to The Shard, The London Eye, Duck Tours and also the Ice Bar. We also hit Oxford Street for a bit of shopping, as you do!

After the fab weekend in London, the rest of the following week was all about relaxing and nice dinners as a family.

be in the picture 6

BattleDad then had an overnight in London himself for a Guns and Roses concert and as soon as he got back he was packing up for yet another week in Paris to be at the client site. So, going solo, BattleKid and I decided to check out some of the local beaches early one morning while the sun wasn’t too hot. We visited Cacela Vehla but there wasn’t much of a beach. We did however discover a small one at Fabrica and enjoyed a morning on the sand collecting shells.

Once BattleDad was back it was haircut time for the boy. While we waited he offered to be a pillow!

On the last Monday of the month, BattleDad finished his client calls by 5pm, so we decided to go exploring as a little boy had had a nap earlier so there would be no early bedtime. We headed for Manta Rota and discovered a glorious beach. We had a lovely evening on the beach.

It was such a nice beach that I took my sister and niece, who were visiting, on their last day before they needed to be at the airport for their flight home to Ireland.

I’ve also been thoroughly enjoying the fact I can wear summer gear! Even with a small bit of rain, I’ve been in t-shirts, summery blouses, shorts, skirts and dresses. I’m so used to it now that putting a pair of jeans on me in London felt so alien. I’m not sure how I’m going to fare in Bluestone in October or even Disneyland Paris in December, which we finally booked!

So there you have it, June was a busy month and as you can see I’ve been making a real effort to get in front of the camera, with and without the boy. If you missed last months Be in the Picture, you can find it here.

Well, May has been and gone and boy oh boy was it busy. It started with our last weekend in Wales, during which time BattleKid got to bring the class bear home with him. He was the first one as nursery didn’t want him to miss out before he left. So, as you do, we took him dragon hunting in Abergavenny Castle. After we’d found the dragon we showed him how to roly poly down a hill and also how to blow Jinny Joes (dandelions). BattleKid loved him and nearly didn’t want to bring him back!

Then came the biggest change to our family as we set off for our new life in the sun. This entailed a 3 hour trip to Portsmouth, a 24 hour ferry trip to Santander, and a 13 hour car journey after an overnight in a gorgeous hotel, which I’ll be reviewing very soon. We just about made it, as those of you who follow me on Instagram will know. Car trouble!

Since then we’ve been staying with my parents while we waited until our new place was finished off, ready for us to move in. While BattleDad has been in Paris with work, BattleKid and I went into Tavira with my parents and also visited Ayamonte, Spain with them.

Once BattleDad was home (in between trips) we all visited Vila Real de Santo Antonio which is a gorgeous town on the river border with Spain.

I also had to admit something very silly since we’ve been here.

I’m gonna stick my neck out and admit something quite dumb. The Land Rover was recovered on Saturday with yet another red engine warning light and as a result we had to go to Faro Airport to pick up a hire car (thank god for Land Rover Extended Warranty and Assistance). We get there and I start panicking about having to drive a manual because I believed everything was opposite to the UK, gear stick, clutch, accelerator, the lot. I mention this to Battledad who peed himself laughing at me! Lo and behold I was panicking for nothing as the clutch and accelerator use the same feet as the UK, only the gear stick is on your opposite side. Cue more laughing from Battledad as I breath a sigh of relief. Turns out my mum had been wondering the same when we regaled the story to my folks…….

Aside from that we’ve been relaxing and enjoying ourselves on my parents decking. We can’t wait to go exploring even more this month!Be in the Picture 5

I cannot believe April has come and gone already. I don’t know where that month has gone and it’s been a busy one indeed. Already it is time for another Be in the Picture post. If you missed last months you can catch it again, Be in the Picture 3.

The month started with BattleDad being away on the bike with friends. i took the opportunity to visit a friend in Swansea. While we were that way I decided to do a spot of dragon hunting with BattleKid at Weobly Castle, which my friend referred to as Wobbly castle! BattleKid and I had a lovely hour or two exploring this ruined castle, which sits on the side of a working farm. The views across to Pembrey and Burry Port were amazing. It’s easy to see why someone would build a castle there.be in the picture 4

The following weekend we had a photo shoot with Donna of Sweet Whimsy Photography and the results are amazing yet again. I’ll be sharing them across Instagram and via a blog post once we receive the digital prints. If I get a chance I will edit this post to include one of my favourites from that day.

Next on our busy agenda was our trip to Portugal to visit my mum and dad and finalise our moving plans. We enjoyed our time there, convinced more than ever we are making the right decision. We had fun in the pool, even if it was a little cold, and even made time to visit the beach. That’s me making fun of my nephew who loves iced tea!be in the picture 4 be in the picture 4

Last weekend saw us visit Caerphilly Castle to see the two dragons, which were amazing. That’s me and my photographer’s assistant! Of course we had to get one with the dragons themselves although BattleKid wasn’t too keen.be in the picture 4 be in the picture 4

And last but by no means least, we finally visited Wenallt Woods to capture some bluebell photographs. While I had my DSLR out, BattleDad kindly took charge of my G7X and caught this very special one of BattleKid and myself.be in the picture 4

And here are a few other crazy moments of fun from April featuring yours truly.
