Be In The Picture 3

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Be in the Picture linky as it has encouraged me to hand over the camera on days out and get some pictures of BattleKid and I together. As a blogger I always have a camera in my hand on days out in particular, but have been guilty of never being in front of it. Well Be in the Picture has changed that and I’d like to think it means BattleKid now has more pictures of his mum to look back on in the future.

It is also an opportunity to look back on the month and see what we’ve been up to and it has surprised me yet again. I had forgotten all about visiting Chepstow Castle and our visit to Dublin seems so long ago!

We’ve had a busier month than I initially thought and it all kicked off with a visit to Chepstow Castle as mentioned. I had forgotten all about this castle until Kerry mentioned it on Facebook and I knew we had to go dragon hunting there. BattleKid and I had visited nearly two years ago with Lolo but BattleDad had never been. Well, we changed that and we also found the Chepstow dragon too!

The weekend after dragon hunting, BattleKid and I headed home to Ireland to visit family. While we were there we visited Powerscourt Waterfall with a few of my sisters and my niece and nephew. While it was a bit drizzly we still enjoyed seeing it and I was glad I’ve finally visited a place I’ve always wanted to.

Next trip during our busy month was a visit to Bristol Zoo before our annual passes expired. Bristol Zoo is only an hour from us and although it’s quite a small zoo, it still makes for a nice day out. We had fun seeing all the animals, particularly the penguins which are BattleKid’s favourites and we also had fun in the “stick your head in here” pictures. Well, it’d be rude not to join the boy!

Having fun

To round off a very busy month we visited Legoland last weekend with some friends of ours. We spent quite a bit of time in the large playground near the Duplo section and BattleKid thoroughly enjoyed himself here. We even had a bit of fun together and BattleDad kindly captured a lovely moment between us for us to treasure. I think this one is my favourite picture of myself and the boy from this month.

Joining in with Kerry of Kerry Louise Norris and Alana of Baby Holiday in their Be in the Picture community in which they encourage us to get in front of the camera instead of always being behind it. I’m guilty of this and by joining in with Be in the Picture, it ensures BattleKid will have pictures of me as well of himself when he grows up. Here’s February’s Be in the Picture post.

Win a Family Day Pass to Geronimo 2017 Festival

Geronimo, the UK’s largest children’s festival, kicks off on 27th to 29th May 2017. Action-packed with more performances, activities and acts than in its previous two years, families can also enjoy camping on-site in the stunning grounds of Arley Hall, Cheshire for a fun weekend.geronimo 2017 festival

From the Geronimo Festival Circus to the legendary Justin Fletcher, Mr Bloom and Andy Day, there will lots of acts, performers and activities to keep the kids entertained for hours.geronimo 2017 festival geronimo 2017 festival

Guinness World Record holder Jez Avery will also be there performing his world class PRO BMX and Mountain bike Stunts at The Show Ground Arena, which I know BattleKid would love to see as he is bike mad, whether it be the cycling or motor type!

There will be a sound track to enjoy for all Geronimo festival goers from Mr. Wilson’s Second Liners, a New Orleans funeral street parade meets 90s club classics rave, to Rockin’ Rhinos ‘rocked-up nursery rhyme remixes.geronimo 2017 festival

Brand new to Geronimo 2017 is the Digital Zone, where older children can meet their favourite YouTubers and Gamers as well as try their hand at all the latest technology.

There will also be an inflatable assault course, Parkour workshops, plus the UK’s first fully mobile, interactive 30 metre-long trailer cave. Little monkeys can enjoy the four climbing towers and a digital traverse wall, and are sure to be pooped by the end of the day!geronimo 2017 festival geronimo 2017 festival geronimo 2017 festival geronimo 2017 festival

For Tiny tots there are signing classes and sensory activities, along with Little Learners, the award-winning messy play and mark making class. Younger children can get their groove on at Dance Baby Sling.

To keep everyone fueled throughout the festival, there will be a huge range of food stalls, artisan burger and wood-fired pizza vans, which I personally like the sound of. Even the fussiest of eaters will find something to ensure they can carry on enjoying the fun at Geronimo 2017!

For the first year ever families can now camp in the specially designed child friendly campsite. The campsite features both options to either bring your own tent, caravan or motorhome, or take advantage of the many glamping options. With the option of booking all the kit needed to camp and the promise to be pitched with friends regardless of group size or when you arrive, all that grown-ups need to worry about is making sure they get to see as much of the Geronimo Festival as they can.

Like the sound of all of that? Well, I have 1 Family Day Pass to attend the Geronimo 2017 Festival, either on Sunday 28th May or Bank Holiday Monday 29th May, on offer for one of my lucky readers. The winner will win a Family Day Pass to this year’s Geronimo Festival and are sure to have a jam-packed day of fun!

An Autumnal Family Photo Shoot with Sweet Whimsy Photography

In September of last year I came across a family photographer in South Wales via Kerry of Kerry Louise Norris who had family photo shoot done with her. The photographer in question is Donna of Sweet Whimsy Photography. Soon after Rebecca of Mouse Dog Baby blog posted about her family photo shoot with Donna and she was also hosting a competition to win a family photo shoot with Donna. Having seen her photos of both Kerry and Rebecca’s families I entered thinking nothing of it. To my surprise I won and I immediately thought of doing an autumnal family photo shoot with Sweet Whimsy Photography.autumnal family photo shoot

Donna contacted me to say I was the lucky winner and we talked through what I had in mind and dates which may suit us all. I explained to Donna that I would love an autumnal family photo shoot as autumn is one of my favourite times of year. We take an annual trip to Westonbirt Arboretum in autumn each year and I generally do a mini shoot with BattleKid but with Aris, BattleDog #2, in tow it’s too difficult to try set up a family photo so we never have one of all of us in the picture.

I’ve always wanted an autumnal family photo shoot and when Donna said it was more than possible given the time of year, I was over the moon. We settled on Saturday the 5th November and I left it to Donna to choose the location as I imagined she would know where was best to visit get the best autumn leaves into our photos.

We met in Ynysangharad Park in Pontypridd at 2.30 and Donna directed us to our first location beside the Taff River. BattleKid loves nothing more than throwing stones in rivers and lakes with BattleDad so this was a perfect spot to start. We spent a few minutes there just throwing stones before moving onto a more wooded area for some fun with leaves.autumnal family photo shoot

From there we chased BattleKid across the football fields before finishing at another wooded area at the opposite end of the park from where we had started and the blanket of leaves there were just what I had envisaged. Donna had come up trumps for us and it was here that our overall favourite picture was captured. Donna printed it on a canvas for us as part of the picture package we chose and it takes pride of place on our kitchen, the heart of our family home.autumnal family photo shoot

Our experience with Donna was amazing. She is a very approachable and gentle lady and she put both us the parents and 2 year old BattleKid at ease. For some shots Donna directed us and for others she let us do our own thing which was a great mixture. She also came armed with some blankets to wrap up in and one of our other favourite shots is the three of us tucked up in one with us tickling BattleKid.autumnal family photo shoot

We had lots of fun during our autumnal family photo shoot and Donna captured the most amazing pictures of us as a family. We got ones of all of us together, ones of each parent with BattleKid and some amazing ones of him on his own. And the light towards the end of the shoot was just perfect. She really did us proud.autumnal family photo shoot autumnal family photo shoot autumnal family photo shoot

Our allotted time flew by and by the time we departed it certainly didn’t feel like we had just spent nearly two hours in her company. In between shots we chatted with Donna and she is such a friendly and lovely person.

After a few weeks Donna sent us the finished results and we were blown away with them, so much so we paid for all our pictures as we couldn’t pick our favourites. Donna managed to capture a fantastic set of family photos for us that we will proudly display in our home and cherish for years to come. We were so impressed by Donna and the photos she captured of us that we are about to have a Spring time family photo shoot with her, and this time Aris is coming with us. I cannot wait to see the pictures she manages to get this time around.

If you are looking for a family photographer for an outdoor shoot in South Wales I cannot recommend Donna enough. You won’t be disappointed. Our autumnal family photo shoot with her was amazing and the results were out of this world.

Living Arrows 13/52

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth

Kahlil Gibran

Wasn’t the weather this weekend glorious! We were away with friends visiting Legoland and before we left our AirBnB I took a few snaps of BattleKid in the sunshine. In fairness I put that boy through alot and he is quite tolerant of the camera being in his face. The life of a blogger’s child hey. At one stage he was blinded by the sun and after struggling to put his hood up decided enough was enough was enough and politely said “that’s enough mama, please”. I duly obliged and out the camera away, but only until we reached Legoland. How was your weekend?

13/52 My Sunday Photo: 26/03/2017

my sunday photo
Yesterday we were at Legoland with friends and had a good day. My highlight was by far Miniland, where all the models of famous buildings around the world are. It’s amazing what they can create with Lego! BattleKid enjoyed his ride on a Duplo train and had a ball playing in the Duplo playground. I personally loved this particular climbing frame with the mirrored balls. I love the effect it creates. Hope you all enjoyed yesterday’s sunshine as much as we did!
