Last week we discovered yet another beach near us, Manta Rota, and what a beach it was. Miles of sand, gloriously warm water and all while in the beautiful Portuguese evening sun. We went after BattleDad finished his client calls, modelling our Saltrock t-shirts, and although we didn’t arrive until nearly 6pm, there were still lots of people still there and more arriving.

We had fun on the beach, the boys splashing in the water and I was glad I brought a change of clothes for a certain little person. We loved it so much that we even brought my sister and niece there on the last day of their visit before they were due at the airport and fun was had by all. I think we’ll be there again this week!

Last week while BattleDad was in Paris for work, BattleKid and I started to venture out and about a bit more. We were up early one morning so I decided to head for the beach before it got too hot for us. We were in the car by 9am and headed for Cacela Vehla which is only 10 minutes from our new place. There actually isn’t much there apart from a church, police station and a few restaurants, but it has a lovely view of the Ria Formosa.

There was a walkway down towards the shore via steps, but I noticed a warning sign for snakes and thought there’s no way we were going down there alone.

So instead, we got back into the car and headed for Fabrica which our neighbours had mentioned to us. This is a small beach, with water taxis available to take you across to the Ria Formosa. BattleKid and I just had a walk along the sand, dodging the small fishing boats. He also had fun filling his pockets with shells, stopping every few meters to collect more. Unfortunately they were all falling out of his pockets when he sat down to put his shoes back on.

We were back home by 10.15am, which was just as well, as the temperatures crept up to 37 degrees that day. Hot, hot! But we had a lovely morning at the beach, and fully intend to get a boat across to the Ria when it starts to get a little cooler.

This week has been all about mastering a new skill for BattleKid. BattleDad took his stabilisers off his bike last weekend while I was away and with less than an hour’s practice he is cycling unaided! He can get himself going and is still using his feet as brakes but I can’t believe how quickly he has gotten it. Seems the balance bike is paying dividends now.

As my regular readers will know BattleKid has been enjoying afternoon swims in the pool. He’s been getting more confident going under the water too as I shared last week. However one day last week we were just a little too late to head down for a swim and he wasn’t happy. So, what’s the next best thing to visiting the pool to a 3 year old? Turning on the sprinklers in the garden of course!

He has taken to calling it “do the rain” and he had the best fun running through the sprinklers, getting soaked and trying to coax BattleDog in, who was having none of it! I shared a video on my Facebook page which highlights his delight but here are some pictures I managed to take before we turned them off.

Last week BattleDad was in Paris again for work, so in between getting things ready at our new home, we spent most afternoons in the pool as temperatures reached 30 degrees most days. BattleKid has no fear at all and enjoys going under the water, all thanks to his WaterBabies lessons.

We’ve yet to try out the pool on our site but if it’s anything like my parents, I can see us spending alot of time over the summer in it.
