Win Two Puzzles from Ravensburger

I’ve been lucky enough to have the chance to review two more adult puzzles from Ravensburger. The 1000 piece Used Car Lot puzzle was very enjoyable and easier to do than the previous 1000 piece I reviewed. I also reviewed a lovely 500 piece, A Day at the Beach. Both puzzles are aimed at those aged 10+ and both are easy enough to do.used car lot puzzle a day at the beach puzzle

Now that I’ve had the chance to complete and review them it’s time to let one of my readers win them. If you’d like to get your hands on both puzzles, simply follow the instructions in the widget below and good luck. Please note that both puzzles have been opened and completed once for the purpose of the reviews. They are otherwise like new.

A Day at the Beach Puzzle from Ravensburger Review

Alongside my Used Car Lot Puzzle, I also received A Day at the Beach Puzzle from Ravensburger for review.a day at the beach puzzle

This 500 piece puzzle features a beach scene as created by artist Andy Walker and features all the things we enjoy about A Day at the Beach, including a Punch and Judy show, donkey rides and sandcastle building.

I decided to take a slightly different tactic with this puzzle as it appeared to be a bit harder than my previous two 500 piece puzzles. This was due to the fact there is a lot of beige sand and blue sky in the picture.

I created the border first and then separated out the remaining pieces into four piles. One contained mostly just blue in it, one contained blue with some other colours/features in it, one contained colours and the other was mostly beige sand. I thought that by doing this it might make completing the puzzle easier.

The border took 40 minutes to complete

I started with the sky and pier and this section, apart from a few pieces, took shape without too much difficulty.

Next I moved onto the coloured sections and these came together really easily. Next it was the sand. This proved a bit more difficult than the other sections but it wasn’t long before the majority of this puzzle was done.

Complete in two hour and a half hours

The last few sky blue pieces were put into place, and after only two and a half hours, this A Day at the Beach Puzzle from Ravensburger was complete. I couldn’t believe how quickly it had come together and I wonder did my different tactic help!

WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THE A DAY AT THE BEACH PUZZLE FROM RAVENSBURGER:

  • High quality puzzle.
  • Easy to do and complete. I finished it in two and a half hours.
  • Appears difficult and complicated due to the lack of variety of colours but wasn’t at all.
  • This 500 piece puzzle is aimed at ages 10+ and should not prove difficult to complete.
  • The softclick technology that produces a smooth puzzle to minimise glare on the puzzle image.
  • Contains all the aspects of A Day at the Beach that everyone loves including donkey rides and building sandcastles.
  • Measures 49 x 36cm when complete.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE ABOUT THE A DAY AT THE BEACH PUZZLE FROM RAVENSBURGER:

  • Nothing!

This 500 piece A Day at the Beach puzzle from Ravensburger was easy to complete and enjoyable at the same time. As mentioned I took a different approach to completing this puzzle and I think it helped. The puzzle is aimed at ages 10+ and should be more than doable for that age range.

So if you are looking for a puzzle for yourself or a child age 10 years of age or above, then this puzzle may just fit the bill. The A Day at the Beach puzzle retails at around £7.99 and is available from Amazon and other major retailers. Why not check out the full range of puzzles available at Ravensburger. They cater for both children and adults!

Used Car Lot Puzzle from Ravensburger Review

Following on from last month’s Glittering Gemstones Puzzle Review I was kindly sent a Used Car Lot Puzzle from Ravensburger, which was another 1000 piece puzzle, to review.

used car lot puzzle

While I’ve been enjoying doing puzzles again, the 1000 piece puzzle from last month nearly broke me. It was really hard and took me over 10 hours to complete, so I was quite apprehensive about this one I can tell you.

The Used Car Lot puzzle was created by artist Geoff Tristram and features “Honest Harry’s” used car lot. It forms part of the Best of British range of puzzles from Ravensburger.

This puzzle, although 1000 pieces, was a lot more fun to make than the Glittering Gemstones puzzle. As always, I made the border first before starting on the body of the puzzle.

This puzzle has lots of different elements to it, including colour groups and text groups. I started by picking out pieces with text on them and putting them together, using the picture on the box to aid with them. The areas I chose started coming together really quickly.

After 2 hours and 20 minutes

Next I picked out all the purple and blue coloured pieces and started putting together the purple and blue cars and again they came together quite easily.  The green car quickly followed suit.

I was really excited by how quickly I was putting together this puzzle compared to my last 1000 piece puzzle and all-in-all it took me five and three quarter hours to complete this puzzle, just over half the time it took me to complete the other one.

Completed after 5 hours and 45 minutes

And I’ll let you in on a little secret, I enjoyed this one more. I think the array of colours and text it contains made it easier to piece together sections compared to the white/black Glittering Gemstones puzzle.

WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THE USED CAR LOT PUZZLE FROM RAVENSBURGER:

  • High quality puzzle.
  • Easy to do and complete.
  • Nice variety of colours and text which help make it easy to complete.
  • This 1000 piece puzzle would not be too difficult for a novice puzzle maker.
  • The softclick technology that produces a smooth puzzle.
  • Made from strong premium grade cardboard, with a linen finish to minimise glare on the puzzle image.
  • Very easy to lose a few hours to this puzzle without realising.
  • Measures 70 x 50cm when complete.
  • Ideal for ages 12+.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE ABOUT THE USED CAR LOT PUZZLE FROM RAVENSBURGER:

  • Nothing!

This 1000 piece Used Car Lot puzzle from Ravensburger was very enjoyable to complete and not difficult at all. It certainly wouldn’t need an advanced puzzle maker to complete it and I think anyone would enjoy making this puzzle. I certainly did.

So if you are looking for a puzzle to while away a few hours with this Used Car Lot puzzle from Ravensburger might just be what you are looking for. It retails at around £11.99 and is available from Amazon and other major retailers. Why not check out the full range of puzzles available at Ravensburger. They cater for both children and adults!

Glittering Gemstones Puzzle from Ravensburger Review

Following on from last month’s Vintage Travel Guides Puzzle Review, I was kindly sent a Glittering Gemstones Puzzle from Ravensburger which contains no less than 1000 pieces to review. As you know by now, I’ve been really enjoying revisiting my youth and doing puzzles at the kitchen table of an evening so to get one which I would class as the next step up was lovely.

A tantalising, tricky treat for puzzle fans

Ravensburger claim this puzzle is challenging … but not impossible. Well it was time for me to see if this was true.glittering gemstones puzzleI can tell you they did not disappoint! I thought this puzzle was going to break me. As always I started by gathering the edges and putting them together before attempting any section within the main body of the puzzle. And this is where I first stumbled.

I thought I had gotten all the edge pieces out but as I put them together I soon found I was short by about 5 or 6. Cue another round of sorting through nearly 1000 pieces to find the elusive edge pieces I’d missed the first time round.

And you’ll never guess, I needed a third round before I completed the edges! With the border finally done I could start attempting the main body of the puzzle.glittering gemstones puzzle

Firstly, I thought it would be easy enough to get all the pearl-containing pieces and put them together but as there are so many different sized ones within various sections of the puzzle, this proved a lot harder than I first imagined. In fact, some of the pearl sections were not completed until the very end of making this puzzle.

I next gathered coloured pieces and started putting them together. I did have some confusion with the various pink gemstones but soon deciphered which went with which. There was no real order to how I put this puzzle together. Some sections came together quite quickly while others proved more difficult and took a lot longer to put together.glittering gemstones puzzle

Along with some of the pearls proving troublesome, the various diamond pieces were tricky to put together. Some could have fitted in more than one section so I had to take my time over them and spent quite a long time twisting and turning the diamonds to see if they fit where I thought they would.

Adding the 1000th piece to my Glittering Gemstones Puzzle!

But when all is said and done, I completed the puzzle and what a sense of achievement that gave me. It took me well over 10 hours to complete, spread from Sunday afternoon to a Thursday evening in one week. While there were times I felt like quitting, I did it. BattleDad even commented a few times with “why are you torturing yourself? Just roll it in a ball and throw it back in the box”.

But I didn’t give in. The more I completed, the more the puzzle started coming together, the more determination it gave me. And I’m now quite proud of myself for having completed this 1000 piece Glittering Gemstones Puzzle from Ravensburger.

What I loved about the Glittering Gemstones Puzzle from Ravensburger:

  • High quality puzzle.
  • Quite tricky to do and challenging.
  • 1000 pieces is definitely for someone who is used to doing puzzles.
  • The softclick technology that produces a smooth puzzle.
  • The puzzle does feel like a premium puzzle.
  • Very easy to lose a few hours to this puzzle without realising.
  • Gives an unbelievable sense of achievement once completed.

What I didn’t like about the Glittering Gemstones Puzzle from Ravensburger:

  • Nothing! Although unlike the previous two puzzles I have reviewed this wasn’t the most relaxing until towards the end.

Although it nearly broke me, and at times I felt like giving in, overall I quite enjoyed completing this Glittering Gemstones puzzle from Ravensburger. It was quite challenging and tricky in parts but if you are used to doing puzzles and are looking for something challenging, to stretch your mind, then this is the puzzle for you!glittering gemstones puzzle glittering gemstones puzzle

BattleKid joined me at the kitchen table on the Sunday afternoon when I started this Puzzle to try out his own new puzzles from Ravensburger. Once I had completed it, on the Friday morning when he spied the completed article on said kitchen table, I got a “oh good girl mama, you do your puzzle” from him. Praise from your boy for completing a tricky puzzle made it all worth it, all 10+ hours and 1000 pieces of it.

So if you are looking for a puzzle to take you to the next level with puzzles, then this Glittering Gemstones puzzle from Ravensburger might just be what you are looking for. It retails at around £11.99 and is available from Amazon and other major retailers. Why not check out the full range of puzzles available at Ravensburger.
