Be In The Picture 5

Well, May has been and gone and boy oh boy was it busy. It started with our last weekend in Wales, during which time BattleKid got to bring the class bear home with him. He was the first one as nursery didn’t want him to miss out before he left. So, as you do, we took him dragon hunting in Abergavenny Castle. After we’d found the dragon we showed him how to roly poly down a hill and also how to blow Jinny Joes (dandelions). BattleKid loved him and nearly didn’t want to bring him back!

Then came the biggest change to our family as we set off for our new life in the sun. This entailed a 3 hour trip to Portsmouth, a 24 hour ferry trip to Santander, and a 13 hour car journey after an overnight in a gorgeous hotel, which I’ll be reviewing very soon. We just about made it, as those of you who follow me on Instagram will know. Car trouble!

Since then we’ve been staying with my parents while we waited until our new place was finished off, ready for us to move in. While BattleDad has been in Paris with work, BattleKid and I went into Tavira with my parents and also visited Ayamonte, Spain with them.

Once BattleDad was home (in between trips) we all visited Vila Real de Santo Antonio which is a gorgeous town on the river border with Spain.

I also had to admit something very silly since we’ve been here. To know more check out this Instagram post!Be in the Picture 5

Aside from that we’ve been relaxing and enjoying ourselves on my parents decking. We can’t wait to go exploring even more this month!Be in the Picture 5

I cannot believe April has come and gone already. I don’t know where that month has gone and it’s been a busy one indeed. Already it is time for another Be in the Picture post. If you missed last months you can catch it again, Be in the Picture 3.

The month started with BattleDad being away on the bike with friends. i took the opportunity to visit a friend in Swansea. While we were that way I decided to do a spot of dragon hunting with BattleKid at Weobly Castle, which my friend referred to as Wobbly castle! BattleKid and I had a lovely hour or two exploring this ruined castle, which sits on the side of a working farm. The views across to Pembrey and Burry Port were amazing. It’s easy to see why someone would build a castle there.be in the picture 4

The following weekend we had a photo shoot with Donna of Sweet Whimsy Photography and the results are amazing yet again. I’ll be sharing them across Instagram and via a blog post once we receive the digital prints. If I get a chance I will edit this post to include one of my favourites from that day.

Next on our busy agenda was our trip to Portugal to visit my mum and dad and finalise our moving plans. We enjoyed our time there, convinced more than ever we are making the right decision. We had fun in the pool, even if it was a little cold, and even made time to visit the beach. That’s me making fun of my nephew who loves iced tea!be in the picture 4 be in the picture 4

Last weekend saw us visit Caerphilly Castle to see the two dragons, which were amazing. That’s me and my photographer’s assistant! Of course we had to get one with the dragons themselves although BattleKid wasn’t too keen.be in the picture 4 be in the picture 4

And last but by no means least, we finally visited Wenallt Woods to capture some bluebell photographs. While I had my DSLR out, BattleDad kindly took charge of my G7X and caught this very special one of BattleKid and myself.be in the picture 4

And here are a few other crazy moments of fun from April featuring yours truly.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Be in the Picture linky as it has encouraged me to hand over the camera on days out and get some pictures of BattleKid and I together. As a blogger I always have a camera in my hand on days out in particular, but have been guilty of never being in front of it. Well Be in the Picture has changed that and I’d like to think it means BattleKid now has more pictures of his mum to look back on in the future.

It is also an opportunity to look back on the month and see what we’ve been up to and it has surprised me yet again. I had forgotten all about visiting Chepstow Castle and our visit to Dublin seems so long ago!

We’ve had a busier month than I initially thought and it all kicked off with a visit to Chepstow Castle as mentioned. I had forgotten all about this castle until Kerry mentioned it on Facebook and I knew we had to go dragon hunting there. BattleKid and I had visited nearly two years ago with Lolo but BattleDad had never been. Well, we changed that and we also found the Chepstow dragon too!

The weekend after dragon hunting, BattleKid and I headed home to Ireland to visit family. While we were there we visited Powerscourt Waterfall with a few of my sisters and my niece and nephew. While it was a bit drizzly we still enjoyed seeing it and I was glad I’ve finally visited a place I’ve always wanted to.

Next trip during our busy month was a visit to Bristol Zoo before our annual passes expired. Bristol Zoo is only an hour from us and although it’s quite a small zoo, it still makes for a nice day out. We had fun seeing all the animals, particularly the penguins which are BattleKid’s favourites and we also had fun in the “stick your head in here” pictures. Well, it’d be rude not to join the boy!

To round off a very busy month we visited Legoland last weekend with some friends of ours. We spent quite a bit of time in the large playground near the Duplo section and BattleKid thoroughly enjoyed himself here. We even had a bit of fun together and BattleDad kindly captured a lovely moment between us for us to treasure. I think this one is my favourite picture of myself and the boy from this month.

This month we’ve been packing things in and it was only when I went through my pictures for this post that I realised just how busy we’ve been. At the start of the month we did a cake smash photo shoot for BattleKid’s third birthday, albeit a month late. Better late than never. The first picture is probably cheating a bit but I liked the framing BattleDad got while taking this picture. After I’d done my thing I joined BattleKid for some cake, the non smashed, non foot-in-the-cake pieces. See my Living Arrows 6 post and you’ll understand the reference.

In the middle of the month I took a Friday off, and after running errands in the morning, I got BattleKid early from nursery and we went dragon hunting at Raglan Castle, not far from us. He napped on the way and I had to wait in the car while he was catching flies until he decided to wake up!be in the picture 2

Once he did we had a lovely time in the castle, found a dragon and got a selfie together. Selfie’s are the way forward when you’re out on your own with your kids. This is another reason why I love my Canon G7X camera. The flip screen is brilliant for selfies.

The day after that it was another dragon hunting expedition to Cardiff Castle, this time with BattleDad. We had a lovely day and BattleKid had fun throwing the dragon he found into the air. Being in mum’s arms didn’t stop him!

This weekend just gone, BattleKid and I joined a friend and her children at Cefn Mably Farm Park and we had a lovely time before the rain set in. Thankfully we were just done outside when this happened. And Amen to bringing a change of clothes so the boys could enjoy soft play, leaving us mums to enjoy hot cups of tea/coffee. Another selfie moment with my boy in the rain, but we were happy!be in the picture 2

It’s only this month, now I’ve done the round up of my Be in the Picture snaps, that I really see the benefit of this linky and community with Kerry and Alana. It’s definitely one I plan to continue to join in with every month. It’s also a brilliant way to ensure there are photos of me among those of the boy alone or with BattleDad. Memories in the making!

Be in the Picture

Be In The Picture 1

Be in the Picture is a new linky and Instagram community that has been started by the lovely Kerry of All About A Mini Norris and Alana of Baby Holiday in which they are encouraging us to feature in our pictures more. I, like most bloggers, am the one most often behind the camera and do regret, like Kerry and Alana say in their posts, that I don’t feature more in the pictures from our days out. I always get lots of lovely pictures of BattleKid and ones with him and BattleDad but never many of myself.

Well, with encouragement from them, I’m going to do something about it. On family days out I’m going to hand my camera over to BattleDad in the hope I can feature more and on days, like last Saturday, when I am on my own with BattleKid, I’m going to try use whatever I can to get myself in front of the camera. I can’t promise I will join in every month but with it only being once a month, I’ll certainly do my best to find at least one picture.

My first picture for this series is a picture I took of myself and BattleKid sharing a flapjack and a lovely Welsh cawl after our visit to Carreg Cennan Castle. We decided to warm up in the tea room before we headed for home and found a lovely quiet spot in a corner in front of a mirror. I took a few pictures of BattleKid and I in the mirror and this is the best of the lot. A perfect start to my participation in this new series and community.
